LED test of up to 28 LEDs simultaneously
An efficient LED test of function, color and intensity is provided by Micro-Epsilon’s high-precision, multi-point color detection system. The colorCONTROL MFA-7 enables monitoring of up to 28 LED test objects simultaneously. Take advantage of its flexible positioning, high repeatability, measuring rates and dynamics in a variety of applications.
Inspect self-luminous objects effectively
Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) nowadays appear in everything from household lighting and electrical appliances, to computers, toys and the latest vehicles, in order to reduce the cost of electricity and overall energy use. Their high luminous efficiency, large color spectrum and different illuminants (visible light, IR, UV), enable a wide variety of applications.
But as the individual LED color quality and its color temperature depend on its ‘bin’, the differences in color temperature can be significant in the case of LEDs from different ‘bins’. Consequently, there is a strong need to inspect and check the illumination and color temperature match.
Multiple LED test function, color and intensity
Such LED test is enabled with high-precision LED Analyzers from Micro-Epsilon, which are used for flexible color inspections and intensity testing of LEDs, displays and self-luminous objects. Micro-Epsilon has updated its popular colorCONTROL MFA series of LED Analyzers with the colorCONTROL MFA-7.
This high precision, multi-point color detection system is available in either 7, 14, 21 or 28 channel configurations. It enables monitoring of color, intensity and function of up to 28 LEDs, which are located at different positions, simultaneously.
The highest precision LED test at an attractive price
The colorCONTROL MFA-7 series for LED test replaces the discontinued colorCONTROL MFA-5 series. The MFA-7 series offers 30 times higher data processing/sampling speeds (up to 100 Hz), 10 times higher repeatability (xy < ±0.000025) and 10 times wider dynamic range (1–50,000 lux). It is available with 7, 14, 21 or 28 measurement channels, each with a uniform installation size.
The colorCONTROL MFA-7 measures color, intensity and function. Color measurement takes place in the xyY, XYZ, Luv, uvL or RGB color spaces. The MFA-7 also outputs the dominant wavelength (λdom) and color temperature (CCT).
The solution includes an IP20 MFA controller in a robust aluminum housing, enabling the connection of the desired number of exchangeable MFS receiving sensors with integrated optical fibers.
Get to know the color sensor’s measurement principle
The colorCONTROL MFA-7 uses a non-contact measurement principle. Its color sensors approximate human color perception. Similar to the receptors of human eye, the high-resolution color filters image the spectral sensitivity of the eye, providing the detailed information about the color composition. In this way, the colorCONTROL MFA-7 excels in high precision and repeatability, far exceeding standard LED test devices.
Information from the measured object is directly transmitted to the MFA controller via individual MFS receiver sensors with fibre optic cables. These cables are interchangeable and can be coupled universally.
Free sensorTOOL software from Micro-Epsilon is used for parameter set up of the LED Analyser, as well as to read out and record the measured values for all measuring points synchronously. The integrated RS422 interface allows easy connectivity with other process control units. USB and RS232 interfaces are also provided.
Suit the exact requirements of your application
The high-precision LED Analyzer’s come in handy in color and intensity testing in a wide variety of applications. Potentially, you can use the MFA-7 series in any industrial sector where LED manufacturing or testing takes place, including:
- LED testing of electronic assemblies,
- the testing of self-luminous objects,
- LED bin tests,
- seven-segment display tests,
- front panel tests,
- measurement of the color and intensity of different vehicle lights,
- measurement of the homogeneity of surface area lights,
- measurement of the homogeneity of displays,
- and much more.
The high sensitivity of the MFA-7 also makes it particularly well suited for the precision light transmission testing of pushbuttons, switches and alarm buttons.

Color and intensity testing of vehicle headlights
Vehicle headlights are available with different light units; e.g., various built-in lights and lamps with textured glass are checked for the correct light and glass color.
The colorCONTROL MFA-7 provides direct inline inspection of the homogeneity and intensity of LED headlights without contact.
