Stepper motor drivers with communication interface

Stepper motor drivers from RTA with Modbus TCP/IP communication interface, allow you to connect to all devices that support the Modbus TCP/IP protocol. With these drivers you will achieve synchronized operation, shorter response times and higher speeds.

Take advantage of different driver versions

RTA’s stepper motor drivers with Modbus TCP/IP interface can be connected to a wide range of devices capable of such communication. These are various PLC controllers, industrial computers and other devices. You can choose between three stepper motor drivers with this interface.

These drivers allow control of stepper motors with different flange sizes, i.e., NEMA 17 (42 mm), NEMA 23 (56 mm) and NEMA 34 (86 mm). They are suitable for both standard and industrial stepper motors with encoders.

Choose between three driver versions:

CSD MT 94 with compact design is best suited for smaller stepper motors that operate at a lower DC voltage (24-48 VDC),

X-PLUS MT B4 and X-PLUS MT S4 are meant for high-power stepper motors that can be connected directly to the main AC supply (230 VAC).

Follow the trends with motor drivers with Modbus TCP/IP

Stepper motor drivers with Modbus communication interface feature the latest, i.e., 3rd generation firmware release (2021) that keeps you in step with the times. The drivers are optimized for coupling with Sanyo Denki stepper motors with encoder, but they are also suitable for driving third party stepper motors. All three driver versions are extremely compact and can be used in various types of applications, even the most demanding.

You can drive the stepper motors either by the “relative positioning” or “absolute positioning” modes. You can determine motor’s operating speed and set the “Homing” operating mode. By setting a wide current range of the stepper motor, you can achieve performance up to 120% of the specified current (the so-called “overboost”). By connecting the encoder’s feedback to the driver, information on speed and/or position of a stepper motor is provided. Stepper motors with either 400 cpr or 4000 cpr encoders can be driven.

With the Auto-Sync function featuring a Closed Loop positioning of the motor, you can achieve better performance and dynamics. Driver models differ in the number of I/Os (up to 5 digital inputs +5 digital outputs).

The drivers are UL compliant and can feature limit switches management. They are easily configured using the free RTA Modbus configurator software (MT series setup) that can be downloaded from the RTA website.

CSD MT 94 stepper motor drivers

Stepper motor drivers with Modbus TCP/IP CSD MT 94 from RTA

The CSD MT 94 family includes the smallest drivers with a Modbus interface. Use them to drive smaller stepper motors with an encoder, which are intended for lower voltages. Stepper motors with 400 cpr or 4,000 cpr encoders are available – with or without index.

  • to drive stepper motors with a phase current up to 4 A,
  • for development of applications in demanding environments with limited space, thanks to their compact plastic housing,
  • to control NEMA 17 (42 mm), NEMA 23 (56 mm) and NEMA 24 (60 mm) stepper motors.
  • EM 1H2H-0HE0, size 42 mm, current 2 A and torque 0.5 Nm;
  • EM 2H2M-0HE0, size 56 mm, current 4 A and torque 1.5 Nm;
  • EM 6H2M-0HE0, size 60 mm, current 4 A and torque 2.5 Nm.
  • RH 1S2M-0HE0, size 42 mm, current 1 A and torque 0.5 Nm;
  • RH 2S2M-0HE0, size 56 mm, current 4 A and torque 2 Nm.

X-PLUS MT B4 Stepper motor drivers

X-PLUS MT B4 family consists of more powerful representatives of the stepper motor drivers with Modbus interface. Use them to drive larger stepper motors with greater currents that can be connected to a main AC supply (230 VAC). Stepper motors with 400 cpr or 4,000 cpr encoders are available – with or without index.

  • for driving stepper motors with a phase current of up to 4 A,
  • for avoiding errors and malfunctions, as the compact and robust metal housing enables natural cooling,
  • for driving larger stepper motors with 230 V.
  • EM 3F2M-0XX0, current 4 A, torque 7.0 Nm,
  • EM 3F3M-0XX0, current 4 A, torque 9.0 Nm.
  • RM 3T1M-0XX0, current 4 A, torque 3.6 Nm,
  • RM 3T2M-0XX0, current 4 A, torque 7.0 Nm,
  • RM 3T3M-0XX0, current 4 A, torque 9.0 Nm.

X-PLUS MT S4 Stepper motor drivers

Stepper motor drivers with Modbus TCP/IP X-PLUS MT S4 from RTA

The X-PLUS MT S4 family are more powerful drivers with a Modbus interface. They feature an integrated Safe Torque Off (STO) function (SIL3).

STO (“Safe Torque Off”) is the most common and basic safety function of the motor drivers. It ensures that no torque can act upon the motor by blocking electrical signals from the power devices to the motor. It is used for emergency shutdown and to prevent unexpected start of the device. This safety feature saves space and component costs, as no additional elements are needed between the driver and the motor, to break the current.

All other features and compatibility of these drivers are the same as in the X-PLUS MT B4 family. Therefore, you can use them in the same way, only without the safety function.

Choose a stepper motor and driver for demanding applications

RM series industrial stepper motors with encoder

Take advantage of the robust design and IP54 protection of the RM series stepper motors with encoder for industrial applications. Connect them to the stepper motor driver with a M12 connector cable.

Thanks to the appropriate insulation, you can also safely connect the stepper motor driver directly to the main AC power supply (230 V). Take advantage of its high torque and optimal torque speed curve.

Thanks to their compact design, use these stepper motors for applications with limited space and high-power demand. Use the 400 cpr or 4000 cpr built-in encoder, with or without index.
