Fork sensors for reliable label detection

Exceptionaly sensitive fork sensors from Leuze provide reliable, quick and precise label detection in labelling machines. Benefit from the world’s first combined fork sensor GSX14E. Thanks to its advanced technology, it detects labels regardless of material and surface characteristics.

Fork sensors for labelling machines

The most common application in which you can use fork sensors is label detection in labelling machines. In the packaging industry, product labelling is mostly automatic, and labels come in various formats, sizes, materials, and textures. The time for the accurate placement of the label is usually very limited. Ensure reliable label detection and extremely short sensor response times!

These requirements are met by fork sensors from Leuze, as a combination of transmitter and receiver in one device. Take advantage of their exceptional sensitivity and simple mounting without the need for alignment.

Ultrasonic and light detection in 1 housing

fork sensors GSX14E Leuze

The GSX14E fork sensor combines light and ultrasonic detection methods in the same housing. Bringing together the advantages of both principles, it will provide you with reliable, fast and precise detection of a wide range of different labels. The material, texture, shape and size of the labels are not limiting.

Even labels made of inhomogeneous cavitated BOPP material can be reliably detected through the optical operating principle. The Fork Sensor is ideal for your applications, where a wide range of labels need to be detected, for which, in the past, the use of multiple different sensors was required.

Advantages of the combined fork sensors

  • The reliable detection of labels of a wide range of materials and textures ensures high machine throughputs and prevents downtime,
  • No reconfiguring of the sensor is required when switching label rolls. The shorter setup times result in higher production volumes,
  • Quick and easy setup of the sensor through simply teaching in of the label/carrier combination via the teach button,
  • IO-Link for easy integration of additional functions in the machine control, allows setting the sensor via PLC.

Detect non-transparent labels

fork sensors Leuze application

Requirements:

  • Reliable detection of non-transparent labels (or gaps between labels)
  • Reliable detection of labels with challenging shapes
  • Easy set up of the sensor for all types of labels

Solution:

  • GS61 and GS63B Optical Fork Sensors detect all non-transparent labels, even with irregular shapes and outlines
  • Your machine can be fitted with single fork sensor
  • The sensor is easy to set up using a potentiometer or a “teach” button
  • Slim design allows you to install the sensor close to the dispensing point

Detect semi- or transparent labels

Requirements:

  • Reliable detection of transparent or semi-transparent labels (or gaps between labels)
  • Reliable detection of labels with challenging shapes
  • Easy set up of the sensor for all types of labels

Solution:

  • GSU12, GSU14E, and IGSU14E ultrasonic fork sensors detect all types of labels, even with irregular shapes and outlines
  • GSX14E fork sensor can reliably detect labels made from inhomogeneous cavitated BOPP material
  • Your machine can be fitted with single fork sensor, regardless of the application
