IO-Link
IO-Link is a short distance, bi-directional, digital, point-to-point standard industrial communication protocol connecting intelligent sensors and actuators with control system.
By increasing machine efficiency and flexibility, it reduces costs, minimizes startup times, and boosts productivity.
Created for Smart Factories
The IO-Link protocol, a fieldbus-independent communication standard, was collaboratively developed with PLC manufacturers, sensor manufacturers and software providers, to meet the needs of industry 4.0.
It offers an universal solution for the future, designed to be compatible with existing technologies for seamless device integration and data access.
With IO-Link, even basic sensors and actuators can provide process values, identification, and diagnostic data throughout the entire asset structure. This enhances machine flexibility, enabling opportunities for preventive maintenance and supervision.
Benefits of IO-Link Technology
Seamless Configuration and Integration
The IO-Link system comprises an IO-Link Master and one or more IO-Link Devices, i.e., Sensors or Actuators. A digital point-to-point connection between them enables the acquisition of sensor status data irrespective of signal type or sensor brand.
The Master processes digital signals and interfaces with the higher-level controller or PLC. Master-PLC communication occurs using the fieldbus protocol. Additionally, the Master supports various protocols (PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus TCP), allowing the flexible integration of sensors and actuators into existing infrastructures.
Configuration is achievable with just a few mouse clicks using remote access. Sensor settings can also be easily copied and duplicated.
Open the doors for Industry 4.0 and IIoT
IO-Link is unlocking the possibility of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Industry 4.0. Connecting to the cloud enables better accessibility to system, devices, and data, thereby increasing production efficiency.
Modules are designed to endure challenging industrial conditions, utilizing standard 3-wire (Class A) or 5-wire (Class B) unshielded cables and using M12 connectors to connect to IO-Link devices. These modules can be installed directly in the field, eliminating the need for a cabinet.
IO-Link is endorsed by a diverse range of manufacturers, e.g., Leuze, Turck, and Unitronics, all providing an extensive array of IO-Link devices. It is also possible to plug and read non-IO-Link devices.
