Thickness measurement system

The ThicknessGAUGE sensor system from Micro-Epsilon is used for precise inline thickness measurements and for quality control of different materials and surfaces, even of complex oness. It provides high measurement accuracy of ± 0.25 μm and thickness measurements of up to 25 mm. Avoid problems with self-assembly of the system from several sensors and use this fully assembled measuring system both in production and in the laboratory.

The thicknessGAUGE.laser system uses laser triangulation displacement sensors to measure thickness, which enables a high measurement frequency (up to 4 kHz) and exceptional accuracy (up to ± 4 / ± 20 µm).

The thicknessGAUGE.laser is ideal for your measurements of strip materials, plates and sheets of common surfaces from plastics and wood to metals. The measurement width is up to 400 mm.

Laser profile sensors for structured surfaces

Laser profile sensors M-E

The thicknessGAUGE.laser profile system uses blue laser profile sensors to measure thickness. It allows both the measurement of structured surfaces as well as the measurement of materials with geometric patterns, including embossed surfaces or perforated plates.

The measurement accuracy is ± 0.5 µm at a measuring rate of up to 100 Hz.

Optimal composition of the system

The entire system is powered by 24 V, which allows you its easier setup and integration.

The thicknessGAUGE measurement system is fully assembled and ready to use. It comprises a stable C-frame, on which two optical distance sensors are fixed, that detect the thickness of the measured object according to the difference principle.

The sensors are perfectly aligned to each other and calibrated for your application during the assembly. The special linear alignment of both sensors on the C-frame allows higher final accuracy of the system compared to the accuracy of each sensor.

The thicknessGAUGE measurement system is in the linear axis of the electromechanical drive, which moves the sensor system from the parking position to the measuring position.

Depending on the needs of your application, the system can perform the measurement in a fixed position (e.g., for center-line measurements or measurements on the edges) or in traversing mode.

ThicknessGAUGE Micro-Epsilon software

This software enables you different measurement modes such as fixed track thickness measurement at any position, measurement of the thickness profile, measurement of several longitudinal trends, an SPC package and automated verification of the measuring system’s capability. It ensures easy and fast verification of the measuring system capability which is individually adjustable.

You can take advantage of other functionalities for documentation and process control: article database, production archive, statistical evaluation, limit value monitoring (optional fieldbus interfaces) and verification of measuring system capability.

Automatic calibration

The thicknessGAUGE measurement system is equipped with in-situ automatic calibration in order to compensate e.g., for the effects of fluctuating temperatures. The measurement and verification of the certified measuring block is performed periodically, when the sensor system returns to the parking position.

With calibration, the system ensures optimal accuracy and eliminates any deviations in the measured distance between the sensors. The calibration period can be set according to your needs. The calibration takes only a few seconds and allows cyclical verification practically at any time and with continuous measurement.

The thicknessGAUGE thickness measurement system is suitable for both production and laboratory measurements. The measurement systems are used in strip processes and plate production in order to measure the thickness continuously at individual measuring points.
