Micro-Epsilon has added a high-performance optoelectronic fibre-optic sensor OptoCONTROL CLS1000 to their fibre-optic sensor portfolio. This sensor comprises a sensor (sensor head and glass fibre optic cable) and a CLS1000 controller. Due to five different controller models with variable switching outputs and a great variety of CFS sensor designs, you can use OptoCONTROL CLS1000 for numerous monitoring tasks in industrial automation and machine building.

Take advantage of this fibre-optic sensor to detect the position, area, shape, and presence of objects, as well as to monitor the filling level, control quality, distinguish dimensions, and much more. It enables you a reliable measurement in the harshest industrial environments, where high temperatures (up to 600 ˚C), aggressive chemicals or vacuum are present, as well as the detection of the finest structures.

In addition to its functional diversity and resistance to environmental factors, the optoCONTROL CLS1000 boasts wide detection and operating ranges of up to 2000 mm. This makes this fibre-optic sensor ideal for the detection of components even at great distances.

Due to the small design of the CFS sensors and extremely robust and compact controller, the sensor is particularly suitable for use in confined installation spaces on machines, robots, and production lines.

The optoCONTROL CLS1000 has numerous teach-in methods including switching output functions, on/off delays, pulse output and adjustable hysteresis (2%–25%).

Features of the CLS1000 controller

The optoCONTROL CLS1000 controller comprises of a compact transmitter and receiver unit with integrated signal evaluation. Its extremely high resistance to ambient light (up to 50,000 lux) increases process reliability when you use it in production plants and systems where intensive lighting is required.

The controller has an OLED display for fast, easy configuration and parameter set up. You can visualise all programming steps, status displays and set/actual values via two 4-digit digital displays.

The controller can be adapted in OEM applications.

optoCONTROL CLS1000 controller models

The optoCONTROL CLS1000 controller series is available in five models:

  • CLS1000-QN: with antivalence function (normally open/normally closed),
  • CLS1000-2Q: with two independently adjustable switching outputs,
  • CLS1000-OC: with optocoupler output,
  • CLS1000-AU: with voltage output,
  • CLS1000-AI: with current output.

Each model is available in NPN, PNP or push-pull versions, each with or without trigger.

The start up is possible directly on the controller or via the external learning function.

Take advantage of a wide range of fibre optics

The high-quality CFS sensors with fiber optics are characterized by small installation dimensions and robust materials. Two main types of fiber optics are available: CFS4 for reflex (one-way) mode and CFS3 for reflex mode V-arrangement (two-way system), transmission mode (two-way system), and multiple reflex mode (transmitting and receiver units are statistically mixed in two or more separate sensor heads).

Both types include numerous variants according to:

  • cable sheath; e.g., PVC, metal, Silicone-metal, VA stainless steel,
  • fibre bundle diameter; 0.6 / 1 / 1.5 / 2.5 / 3 mm,
  • fibre bundle length; 0.3–2.4 m,
  • aperture angle; standard 67˚, optional 22° or 35°
  • sensor head shape;
  • resistance to mechanical stress; e.g. with increased vibration/temperature/pressure resistance.

When using CFS3, you can connect optical fibers with multiple sensor heads to a single controller, so you can detect multiple positions at the same time with a single fibre-optic sensor.
