Supply electric power with top power supplies

MW Leuze TURCK Power Supplies

To power the machines and devices, electric current from a source must be converted to correct voltage, current, and frequency. This is the main purpose of power supplies. Additionally, they may: limit the current drawn by the machine to safe levels, shut off the current in the event of an electrical fault, condition power to prevent electronic noise or voltage surges on the input from reaching the machine, correct power-factor, and store energy for powering the machine during interruption in the source power.

From our wide range of power supplies, you can choose top-quality devices of world’s renown companies:

Convert electric power to suit your requirements

Most of the time the power supplies are intended to convert one type of power to another type. Depending on the needs of your application you can choose from several types of power converters based on the source input voltage and the output voltage:

An AC/DC converter (also power supply or rectifier) is the most common example, taking the 110 V or 230 V AC power from the wall outlet and converting it to 24 V DC power, eliminating the use of batteries for the battery-powered equipment. It can be:

  • Diode Rectifier, changing an applied AC input voltage into a fixed DC voltage, which is mainly used in electric traction, electrochemical processes (e.g., electroplating, battery charging, …), welding and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) related services.
  • Phase Controlled Rectifier, convert a fixed value of AC signal voltage into a variable DC voltage. Its major applications are in DC drives, HVDC systems, compensators, metallurgical and chemical industries as well as in excitation systems for synchronous machines.

A DC/AC converter (also inverter) converts a fixed DC voltage into an AC voltage of desired (variable) frequency. You can use it mainly in induction motor and synchronous motor drives along with UPS, in high voltage DC transmission system, induction heating supplies as well as in low power systems of mobile nature (e.g., flashlight discharge system in photography camera) to very high-power industrial system.

A DC/DC converter (also DC converter or chopper) converts constant to variable DC or variable DC to constant DC. DC converters are classified based on the type of commutation applied to them and of the direction of power flow. You can use them in e.g., in DC drives, SMPS, electric traction, trolley trucks, vehicles powered by battery, etc.

An AC/AC converter (also frequency changer or transformer) is designed to change the AC signal of fixed frequency into a variable AC output voltage:

  • Cycloconverter changes AC supply of fixed voltage and single frequency into an AC output voltage of variable voltage and frequency. This frequency is lower than the frequency of the applied AC input signal. You can use cycloconverters in slow-speed large AC traction drives such as a rotary kiln, multi-MW AC motor drives, etc.
  • AC Voltage Controller changes the applied AC signal of fixed voltage into a variable AC voltage signal of the same frequency as that of input. You can use it in lighting control, electronic tap changers, speed control of large fans and pumps, etc.

Choose between linear and switching AC/DC converters

Leuze Power Supplies

Depending on the technology of conversion of the primary AC voltage into the output DC voltage, you can choose between:

  • Linear power supplies that deliver DC by passing the primary AC voltage through a transformer and then filtering it to remove the AC component. Their advantage over SMPS is low frequency noise and EMC, high stability, precise regulation, fast response time and the possibility of setting very low current.
  • Switched Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) that use a power transistor to produce a high frequency voltage that is passed through a small transformer and then filtered to remove both the AC component and noise. SMPS feature lighter weight, smaller dimensions, higher efficiencies, longer hold up times, and the ability to handle wider input voltage ranges.

Conserve energy with LED Power Supplies

A constant voltage power supply is used to power LED lights that have resistors or constant current drivers (i.e., LED drivers) already within the system. You need a power supply to convert your AC household voltage down to a constant DC voltage for your lights. If your LEDs are dimmable and you would like to adjust their brightness, a power supply that has dimming capabilities is the right choice for you.

LED Power Supplies support global efforts to conserve energy. A range of products offer high efficiency, low-power dissipation, and compliance with the latest international lighting regulations.

The LED power supplies are ideal for street lighting, architectural lighting, decorative lighting, embedded lighting, indoor lighting, and LED signage. Because of the robust design and high protection levels against dust and moisture, these power supplies can be installed in many indoor and outdoor industrial LED applications.

The DIN-rail power supplies are attached to the metal standardised DIN rail, commonly used for mounting industrial control equipment and circuit breakers inside industrial equipment. They are the standard for a reliable and efficient power supply as an integral part of numerous application areas – such as mechanical engineering, industrial automation, logistics, automotive industry, wind power, process industry and many more. These supplies are very popular with panel-, machine-, and cabinet builders.

They meet all industry standards and range from 10 W single phase to 1 kW three-phase types.
